A Delegation from Taiwan has been invited by Aerospace Valley on July 6, 2016 in Toulouse aiming at “Bridging TW productivity 4.0 with
aerospace industry in France”. The TBS Aerospace MBA program has attended this event and provides hereby a synthesis of the presentations.
Introduction by Esther Wu of the session, presenting the agenda, and introducing each presentation during the entire workshop.
Presentation#1 by Mr. Thilo Schönfeld about Aerospace Valley: beyond the theoretical and economical origins and the overview of this leading aerospace cluster, Mr. Schönfeld introduced various opportunities for collaboration with Taiwanese industrials (Booster Nova, current international cooperations, coming events…).
Presentation#2 by Mr. Sean Wang, Head of ITRI, pleasantly introduced the Taiwanese Delegation.
Carried out in French, the presentation #3 by Mr. François Meme (General manager of Jump888) interestingly shed light on the Taiwanese supply chain. Around 160 French companies already operate in Taiwan, including 29 CAC40 organizations. In the aerospace industry (Airbus, Thales, Safran, Dassault Systems, Dassault are already working in Taiwan). Taiwan Aerospace has large customers all over the globe. Almost 130 companies and 13,900 employees of Taiwan Aerospace industry are creating $2.77 billion turnover in structure, engine, interiors, avionics, unmanned aerial system and maintenance. Mr. Meme presented notably the case of GoldenBow Precision Technology, Either Tech or Chenfull International.
Presentation#4 by Dr. Maa, General Manager of FFG enables to stress out that Taiwan is one of the world leaders in machine-tools manufacturing especially in the Taichung cluster. Now, the current ambition is to completely turn the current sector into an “industry 4.0 production line” including software, know-how inside the machines. Industry 4.0 will be a Total Service and no more just “enhanced & intelligent machines”!
Presentation#5 by Michele Poli introducing FFG capabilities. Actually more parts of aircraft are composite made either on A350XWB or on the 787. The question is to opt for the right machining strategy. Hence what technology is best adapted, dry or wet? There are many changes in technology that are shaping the manufacturing processes.
Presentation#6 by Racy Cheng working at ITRI in the ICL lab, and in charge of ICT’s Development in Smart Factory. ICL is one of 6 fundamental research labs in ITRI. An embedded Cyber Physical System, provides intelligence through the entire product life cycle. This is similar to what has been coined elsewhere as Future of Factories or Industry 4.0.
- Step 1: Data Acquisition and Transmission-Wired plus Wireless. This is crucial issue in manufacturing. It requires new architecture and firmware to deal with factory challenges.
- Step 2: Data Integration represents another issue. It requires standards and interoperability between the diverse systems, machines from numerous suppliers from different countries.
- Step 3: Data Analysis SaaS. This requires no time consuming approach, sensor data to improve quality inspection efficiency and product quality forecast.
At the end of the day, this leads to the creation of a complete solution embracing both design and manufacturing processes: “Data/Manufacturing Data Platform – IoT PaaS”
Presentation#7 by Dr. Ta Jen Peng shed light on the project concerning the Machine-tool Alliance for Aero Industry in Taiwan. This Aeroindustrial Machine Tool Alliance encompasses 11 builders, 21 million USD. They cover 11 types of aeroparts to create 11 types of machine tools.
Presentation#8 by Yu-Liang Chung, Director of Intelligent System Division, Mechanical and Systems lab. He introduces Smart Manufacturing in ITRI. Examples of development: “High Sensitivity Tactile Sensors” in an exoskeleton (seeing by touching solutions), Industrial Robot Manipulators, …
Presentation#9 by Tangi Meyer, ESI Group, is focused on prototyping and virtual reality in holistic virtual modeling approach (“get it right, get it life, make it smart”). It enables the creation of autonomous virtual prototypes.
